'UNDERAGE SALES SWOOP' - 13/08/08

On 31st July 2008 Sivapathasunderam Sivaraj ,31, of 39 Arnley Road Liverpool 4 pleaded guilty at Liverpool City Magistrates’ Court to selling alcohol to a Trading Standards 15 year old volunteer and was fined £500 and costs of £175 were awarded.

On 23rd November 2007 during an exercise carried out by Liverpool City Council’s Trading Standards to determine whether retailers would sell alcohol to under 18s, a 15 year old female volunteer went into the premises of Fairways Off Licence on Townsend Lane and purchased a large 700ml bottle of blue WKD, an alcopop favoured by young people which has an alcoholic strength of 5% and contains 3.5 units of alcohol.

The sale was observed by Trading Standards Officers and Mr Sivaraj, as the Designated Premises Supervisor and responsible in law for any sales, was summonsed.
