UNDERAGE SALES SWOOP - 10/10/08
Over the summer months
Between June and September 2008 officers from Trading Standards and Merseyside Police used volunteers aged 15 and 16 years to carry over 100 underage alcohol test purchases at off-licences across the city.
At the end of the operation, it was found that twenty one premises had sold alcohol to the volunteers, (a failure rate of 20%). Fixed penalty notices were issued to a number of sellers by officers from Merseyside Police, and investigations into the sales are currently underway to decide whether any further enforcement action against individual licensees is appropriate.
